Starting a blog is a big step. In my case, it is huge, especially considering that I am not a person who usually has very much to say. Add the Bible into the mix, and you end up with a worst case scenario … a blog written by someone with not much to say about a subject most people in the world care little about.
And yet, because I am a firm believer that there is always hope, here I am welcoming you to my blog, The More Sure Word. Needless to say, this is not going to be your every day, run of the mill blog. I’m not going to be writing about my vacations or new recipes I’ve tried and enjoyed. I’ll leave those subjects, along with a myriad of others that are similar, to those who do it so well. I will also not be writing about your typical Bible stuff … you know, the slew of topics such as fixing your finances, restoring your marriage or raising self-willed children. I will likewise leave those and the mountain of other such subjects to the ones with the calling and expertise to deal with them.
So, what is this blog about, anyway? The simplest statement I can come up with to answer that question is this: The More Sure Word is about helping people grow in awareness and confidence that they can know the word of God, but in addition … that they can also understand it for themselves. It’s my conviction that the capacity for believers to be able to accurately interpret and understand the truth of the Bible on their own is the bedrock of faith in Jesus Christ.
There are three parts to this blog. The first, Viewpoints, where this article is posted. This is where I’ll place my personal comments on subjects (mostly Biblical) which I believe are relevant. Your viewpoint is welcomed and encouraged. The second section is Studies. Here you’ll find study tracts prepared by me on various Bible topics … some short, others longer. The third area is a Principles section. These are the foundational building blocks for understanding the truth and incorporating it into your life.
The first Study posted is The Prophetic Word Made More Sure. It is an interpretation of 2 Peter 1:19 as well an explanation of why The More Sure Word was selected as the name for this blog. There is a posting in the Principles as well. It defines of the word principle and compares it with the meaning of the word doctrine.
If you are someone who is interested in interpreting and understanding the Bible on your own, “WELCOME!” I hope you find The More Sure Word to be encouraging, enlightening, practical and, most of all, useful, as you discover how to interpret and understand the word of God for yourself.
