Principle: The Holy Spirit Gives Understanding

The parables of the Bible can be interpreted in many ways, but only explanations from the holy Spirit reveal the nature of God and His kingdom. This is why Jesus explained His parables to the disciples. His practice was in itself a parable … by explaining the parables privately to the disciples, Jesus shows us the manner in which understanding of the Bible’s parables is obtained. Given that the Holy Spirit is the only source for true Biblical interpretation, and since He will never contradict Himself nor the Bible (which amounts to the same thing), it is clear that every person’s Spirit-given understanding of the Bible’s parables will be in complete agreement with every other persons understanding derived in the same manner. This is how the exhortation of 1 Corinthians 1:10 is fulfilled, which says:

Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Conversely, there can be but one cause for the extremely wide array of Bible interpretations now in existence … the overwhelming majority of them were not supplied by the Holy Spirit.
